Girona, two-speed social progress

The counties of the Girona coast are losing the train of social advancement. This is confirmed by the study on the Social Progress Index in the Counties of Girona, presented by one of the authors of the study, the economist and member of the Catalunya Europa Foundation, Jordi Angusto, accompanied by the economist and Delegate of the Foundation in the Empordà, Joan Armangué.

The study, which was presented at the Headquarters of the Diputació de Girona, concludes that the situation of education and housing in the demarcation is worse than the average of Catalonia, as a consequence of the real estate bubble, tourism and the crisis From these data it is shown that those who leave most ill are the counties of the Coast, which have much worse results compared to the inland regions.

The demarcation shows high school rates at the age of 17, as well as higher education rates lower than in the rest of Catalonia. With regard to housing, Girona is the demarcation with more second homes and more empty housing.

All this means that there is a strong division within the demarcation of Girona, with counties that have similar results or even higher than the average for Catalonia and regions with very low results, such as Alt and Baix Empordà.
