Urban planning has created segregated spaces for economic activity outsite the urban fabric. Today there are new needs and realities, such as the competition between logistics and industrial activity for the same ground, the increasing presence of a more “soft” and digital industry that can coexist with residential activity, the urban distribution of goods, the reindustrialization policies to re-produce here what had been externalized abroad, the desire to integrate industrial arees into cities with all the facilities they need or the capacity of the private initiative to propose macro-projects difficult to discard due to the creation of jobs that they entail.
In thsi context, the public administrations have the difficult challenge of defining urban and territorial planning instruments and strategic planning tools that respond to the changing needs of the economic fabric and are also adapted to the territorial matrix and local productive vocations.
