The student Alejandra Méndez Torelló, from the BetàniaPatmos school in Barcelona, ??has been the winner of the first edition of the Young Europe Award convened by the Catalunya Europa Foundation and the Representation of the European Commission in Barcelona, ??to recognize the best research works baccalaureate on European subjects.

The winning research paper, entitled The evolution of the Blue Economy concept within the European Union: Turning the blue into the green, was the most highly valued by the jury for the quality of the research, the depth of analysis, the methodical and personal effort.

The jury has also granted access to the work Prepared for a pandemic? We are investigating the COVID-19 of the student Maria Salazar Cebrià, from the Pia Balmes School in Barcelona, ??due to the interest and complexity of the subject.

Young Europe Award

The Young Europe Award, organized by the Catalunya Europa Foundation and the Representation of the European Commission in Barcelona, ??is the first award in Catalonia that recognizes works by high school students on European issues with the aim of promoting knowledge, research and 'young people's interest in the reality of the EU. In this first edition, 58 students from 52 schools participated. The author of the awarded work will receive 700 euros and the opportunity to travel to Brussels to meet the European institutions together with the author of the entry.

Act of delivery

Both convening institutions congratulate each and every participant of this first edition and at the same time announce the continuity of the prize for the following year.

The award ceremony is expected to take place in September at the Representation Office of the European Commission. During the ceremony, the bases for the second edition will also be announced.
