More than 200 people attended the dialogue on Europe and Russia with the British historian and writer Orlando Figes, at the seventh annual conference of the Catalonia Foundation Europe - Legate Pasqual Maragall held in the auditorium of the RBA publishing house in Barcelona.
Entitled "Europe and Russia: a dialogue necessary for a new global era", the conference was moderated by the TVE journalist, Anna Bosch, and has focused on the future of Europe and relations with Russia in the context of the war in Ukraine and the multiple energy, environmental, health and geopolitical crises.
The British historian and writer Orlando Figes (London, 1959) is an expert in Russia and Eastern Europe, and author of works such as Natacha’s Dance: A Russian Cultural History (2002), The Whisperers: Stalin’s Repression in Russia (2009), The Europeans (2020) o History of Russia (2022). Professor of History at Birkbeck College, University of London, he is considered one of the most internationally renowned historians for his essays, translated into over thirty languages, on Russian social, political and cultural history.
The President of the Catalunya Europa Foundation, Airy Maragall, presented the event that has counted with the collaboration of the Pau Casals Foundation, dedicated to the legacy of the cellist and fighter for freedom, democracy and peace, through music.
