Environment and urban policies, main themes of the work of the Pasqual Maragall Research Awards



Some twenty university papers have been presented to the Pasqual Maragall Research Awards 2022 - 2023 with the aim of distinguishing the best TFG, TFM or unpublished academic works around two thematic areas: the city and Europe.

Thus, the work received deals with topics such as the European Green Pact, climate change and renewable energy, environmental policies, urban policies and public space, migration, the EU response to crises, the contribution of women to European integration, economic policies, political leadership and metropolitan governance.

The prize is organized by the Fundació Catalunya Europa, within the framework of the Pasqual Maragall Legacy Programme, with the collaboration of the Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya, with the aim of promoting the thought and work of Pasqual Maragall and its validity and adaptation at the present time.

The prize consists of two categories:

Category A: For the best unpublished essay work, there is an endowment of €4,000
Category B: For the best final work of bachelor or master’s degree, there is an endowment of €1,000
Both awards distinguish works in the following thematic areas:

"The City"
- Social policies of local governments.
- Metropolitan governance in a European perspective.
- The role of cities in defining and implementing European policies.

"Europe"
- Multilevel governance and subsidiarity in Europe.
- The social Europe.
- European support for climate or digital transitions.
- Territorial cooperation in Europe.

The deadline for submission of the papers ended on July 14 and in autumn the names of the winners will be announced and the awards ceremony will be held.
