Dialogue on March 8 with the author of the book Júlia Manresa and the Historian Paola Lo Cascio

Dialogue on the occasion of March 8 with Júlia Manresa, author of the book and Pasqual Maragall Legacy Award 2023 "Women in the shadow of European construction" and historian Paola Lo Cascio.

The event was held with the collaboration of the llibreria Nollegiu of Poblenou on March 7, 2024.

During the first part of the colloquium, the book and motivations for carrying out this research were presented, which explore the life, contribution and evolution of the political influence group Femmes pour l'Europe, founded in Brussels in 1974 by anti-fascist activist Ursula Hirschmann, also co-founder of the European Federalist Movement. From here, the relevance and particularity of this group is analyzed, made up of senior officials of the European Community, academics and also activists, who understood that, in European institutions lacking democratic legitimacy, the work of lobbying was instrumental in giving women the voice, role and influence they deserved.

In a second part, the conversation was brought to a topical area, on the eve of European elections and with the real threat of a rise of the extreme right in the European Parliament, warning of how all these rights achieved at European level may be threatened by the results of these upcoming elections.
