Café Europa Joves: Curbing the Far Right. Strategies for a Democratic Europe

The Catalunya Europa Foundation, together with Debat.org, have organized for the following May 9 a joint edition of Café Europa, under the title Café Europa Joves: Curbing the Far Right. Strategies for a Democratic Europe.

This Café Europa will have an unusual format, as it will first be hybrid, it can be followed electronically like any other Café Europa we have already organised, or it can be followed face-to-face at Pompeu Fabra University.

The event will have the following format:

  • 10:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.: Dynamics with the in-person attendees

In this half hour, the attendees will be divided into groups and they will be asked questions for their reflection, followed by a short discussion. This first part will be moderated by Dolors Camats, Director of the FCE, and by Pablo Aguilar, coordinator of the Social and Political Dialogue work area of the International Catalan Institute for Peace.

  • 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Debate Cafe Europe

During the second part of the event, the Cafe Europa Debate will take place, in which two speakers will discuss the issue of the extreme right among young people, how has it become so popular among them? What is its impact on social networks? What can we do to stop this trend?

We will have the pleasure of having prominent guests such as Manel Riu, investigative journalist from Crític specialized in climate; Cristina Faciaben, federal secretary of international, cooperation and migration of CCOO; and Sergi Pardos-Prado, professor of political science at the University of Glasgow and member of the UK's migration advisory committee.

These topics will be addressed by our speakers, leaving, as is usual at all Cafes Europa, a certain time for those attending the event and the telematic audience to have a turn of questions to discuss their concerns about the topic with the speakers , either on site or from home via chat.

Remember that the event is hybrid, you can follow it from home in streaming on the official Debat.org channels or you can watch it in person at Pompeu Fabra University.
