The first deputy mayor of Barcelona City Council, Jaume Collboni, and the general director of the Fundació Privada Catalunya Europa, Pau Mas Codina, have today signed a collaboration agreement to promote the "Llegat Pasqual Maragall" program and apply to the development of the municipal activity the results obtained by the foundation in the research on the thought and the political action of Pasqual Maragall.
For Deputy Mayor Jaume Collboni, “contemporary and global Barcelona could not be understood without the thought, reflection and action of Pasqual Maragall. With this agreement we make an exercise of democratic memory of the city, giving a boost to the preservation and dissemination of knowledge about the legacy of Maragall and his political, academic and institutional career, also in relation to current challenges related to the great issues that defined it: city and metropolis, democracy and federalism, and Europe and the Mediterranean. ”.
For his part, the director of the Fundació Catalunya Europa, Pau Mas Codina, confirms that “the analysis and interpretation of Pasqual Maragall's thought, understood in a broad sense, is necessary both to keep alive the memory of one of the people most important in the recent history of our city to contribute decisively to the current debate on metropolitan Barcelona. This means participating in the debate on how to face the challenges of living; to promote reflection on how to contribute to the country's economic recovery and to strengthen Barcelona as a relevant player in European governance ”.
With this agreement, both institutions undertake to develop the Pasqual Maragall Legacy program, which takes the form of various actions such as the award of a research grant, the publication of studies and work papers, the holding of seminars and the publication and dissemination of new testimonies on the FCE website, and the documentary “Maragall i la Lluna”, the holding of an annual conference and various colloquia, the dissemination of publications and activities on social networks, as well as the maintenance of the web site Legacy Pasqual Maragall and the digital archive, and the interrelation with other institutions dedicated to memory.
Barcelona City Council will provide the Fundació Catalunya Europa with the amount of 50,000 euros as a direct grant to support and support the “Llegat Pasqual Maragall” program. The program aims to analyze and interpret the thought of Pasqual Maragall understood in a broad sense, understanding the word and his political action. From this project and from the ideological principles and foundations of the human and political attitude that characterized Maragall and his political, academic and institutional trajectory, his gaze is updated and the reflection and proposal towards the current challenges.
